The fourth round

           The newest winners

In August 2004, winners of eight new Biodiversity Leadership Awards were announced by the Foundations and their panel of nominators. Together, the eight scientists and environmental activists shared US$900,000.

The winners search for, find, catalog, and defend diversity in species-rich and biologically endangered parts of Argentina, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Madagascar, New Caledonia, the Philippines, and the United States. Their awards bring the total sum of Leadership Awards since 1996 to US$3.1 million.

Two of the winners, who are at early stages of their careers, were named as Biodiversity Emerging Leaders.
